The Rothschild family has embodied entrepreneurial family capitalism for 250 years. As both bankers and entrepreneurs, the Rothschild family supports the ongoing changes in the modern world through committed capitalism which uses finance to further progress.
The Rothschild name has been associated with many modernisation projects, from the financing of the Suez Canal to the great railroad adventure with the creation of the Chemins de Fer du Nord by Baron James de Rothschild.
Over the generations, the family’s activities have also reflected a true social conscience as demonstrated by the construction of pioneering research hospitals or the creation of social housing in Paris in the early 20th century.
Baron Edmond de Rothschild founded the Group in 1953. He embodied the transition to the modern finance era and was one of its pioneers. He also personified the Rothschild’s entrepreneurial spirit by investing in innovative industries with great prescience: Club Méditerranée (he was one of the first shareholders), the ice cream maker Ortiz Miko and the Inno retail group.
I chose to pay homage to my father Edmond de Rothschild by giving his name to our
group. The choice was an obvious one. Not only because he was the founder and opened
the three main centres, but also because he was the true reflection of the builder,
visionary and entrepreneur.

Now at the head of the group, Baron Benjamin and his wife Ariane are writing a new chapter in the family adventure. They have taken on the challenge of making the group international while retaining its family spirit. They are also very involved in the group’s non-financial activities which, under their guidance, are becoming enterprises that successfully combine authenticity and profitability.
Team spirit, integrity and entrepreneurship. The family motto is more appropriate than ever. Banking and financial activities hold meaning for the Edmond de Rothschild family and group: they support the real economy while furthering social progress.
The success and stability of the Rothschild family over seven generations show the coherence of an approach that combines a humanist vision of finance, effectiveness and the pursuit of profitability. Environmental projects, medical research, lifestyle...the Edmond de Rothschild group reflects responsible finance with a human touch and ethical behaviour that creates value.
Responsibility is much more than just a goal for our Group. It’s part of our DNA and it’s our adrenaline; it has been at the heart of our sustainable wealth and asset management approach for over two centuries. It is our sincere, profound and shared desire to prepare the future of coming generations today.
